Sound Masking

IMPROVING PRIVACY AND COMFORT

Sound Masking by Pro AV Systems

The purpose of sound masking is to achieve both Speech Privacy and Comfort. Sound Masking introduces a spectrum of noise which gently raises the ambient background sound in order to cover, or mask, speech. Speech Privacy is achieved by raising the noise level to a point that makes conversations unintelligible. Comfort is achieved through the quality and range of the sound produced.

Speech Privacy & Listening Comfort

Sound Masking introduces a spectrum of noise which gently raises ambient background sounds, in order to cover, or mask, speech. This masking achieves Speech Privacy, by raising noise levels to a point that makes human speech unintelligible, thus reducing distractions. At the same time, listening comfort is achieved through the quality and range of the sounds produced. The resulting environment leads to greater productivity, increased privacy, and overall comfort.

Dynamic Range

Sound Masking works by changing the dynamic range of your environment. Normal environments have a large dynamic range, with great degrees of difference between the lowest (ambient) sound level and the highest levels of sound when people are actively speaking and working. By raising your ambient background sound level, sound masking reduces this dynamic range and “masks” unwanted noise.

Networked vs. Non-Networked

Sound Masking solutions can range from self-contained individual units, for personal use, to complex projects with real-time control and monitoring across your entire building. Non-networked solutions are great for single-use, streamlined solutions requiring only basic controls, while networked solutions are optimized for design flexibility, limitless zoning capabilities, easy expansion, and real-time system access, providing complete control, monitoring, and reporting.

Transform Environments

Transforming your environments with purposeful, productive solutions is what Pro AV Systems does every day. By creating environments that support both heads-down work and collaborative efforts, sound masking systems improve your team’s productivity and comfort, reduce employee turnover, and can potentially save thousands of dollars (and headaches) in construction costs.
